Florence Agnes Mitchell, age 74, of Tawas City passed away on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital.Florence was born on Nov. 15, 1936, in Detroit to Walter M. and Florence A. (nee Jacobson) Dixon. Florence was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in East Tawas. She will be remembered for her love of sewing, crocheting and how she could grow absolutely anything. Florence had a touch of magic when it came to her flowers. She enjoyed growing tomatoes and oranges in the warmth of her house by seeds she would buy. Florence also loved casinos, fishing off the docks and traveling. However, her family was the closest to her heart. One of the most memorable vacations was when Florence and her husband traveled to Alaska. Florence loved children. When children would come to Mitch's Pizzeria to eat, she would give the children a bag of potato chips for a treat. She spoiled her grandchildren by always giving them a goodie bag to travel home with after they would come to visit. In 1992, Florence, her husband, and all the children and grandchildren drove to California for a long vacation. Florence also enjoyed to reminisce about how her family would meet up with her and her husband in Mississippi during the celebration of Mardi Gras. Florence is survived by her loving children, Ken and Della Mitchell, Deb and Keith Howell, Cynthia and Mike Parnicky and John Mitchell, all of Tawas; 15 grandchildren, Alex, Tony (Collette), Holly (Andrew), Karri (Mike), Kenneth, Keith, Julie (D.J.), Heather, Micheal, John, Billy, Ashley, Nick, Paige and Brad; 19 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kiley, Alyssa, Duncan, Jordan, Justin, Mariyah, Emily, Mykayla, Nicolina, Aiden, Isabella, Joel, Gwendolyn, Kelsey, Micheal, Braiden, Jaxon and Abrey; two sisters, Sandra Duquet and Carole Marshall; one sister-in-law, Joyce Dixon; and life-long friend, Katherine Owens. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, E. Kenneth Mitchell, on Jan. 2, 2006; both of her parents; and her brother, Walter Marion Dixon III.
