FREDERICK A. SCHIPPERTPALMS, MIPALMS- Frederick Arthur Schippert, age 90, of Palms, MI. died on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Lakeview Extended Care in Harbor Beach after a long illness. Fred was born on June 19, 1926 in Detroit to the late William and Lucy (Maude) Schippert. He married Florence (Mona) Wesserling on January 5, 1946, she preceded him in death. He married Ellen Olson on September 16, 1986. Fred grew up in Detroit and spent many summers in Sanilac County where he loved to walk in the woods and swim in Lake Huron. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and retired as a Lt. from the Naval Reserves. He attended the University of Michigan and Wayne State University where he earned an EdD. He enjoyed a long career in education and was a strong supporter of Academic Games. He retired as Supervisor of Mathematics from the Detroit Schools in 1984. He then volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Americus, GA., Detroit, Mexico and Sanilac County for many years. Fred was a member of Forester United Methodist Church, Odd Fellow Washington Lodge in Detroit and then Eastwood Lodge in Eastpointe, MI., also a member of Harbor Beach AMVETS Post 115. He was a past member of the Greasepaint Players and served on the Sanilac County Building Authority and Veterans Board for many years. He loved music and played the accordion. He enjoyed time with family and friends, telling jokes and sharing stories. Fred loved to travel, spoke German and studied several other languages. Surviving are his wife and soulmate Ellen; children Frederick II (Janice) Schippert, of Venice, FL., Karen Herndon of Amelia Crt., VA., Lucy (Michael) Bozzi of Sterling Hts, MI., Barbara (Dallas) Schneider of Royal Oak, MI., Robert (Lauri) Schippert of Roseville, MI, daughter-in-law Susan Higgins of Grosse Pointe Park, MI.; 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Fred was preceded in death by one son, William Schippert, a sister Evelyn (Bill) Lee and brothers Robert (Irene) Schippert and William (Ruth) Schippert. Visitation will be from 2- 8 P.M. on Friday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Lexington. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M. at the Forester United Methodist Church, with visiting at the church from 10-11. Rev. Lynn Hasley will officiate. Burial will be in the Delaware Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Forester United Methodist Church or Habitat for Humanity.
