Freeman Allen "Al" Lutes of Tawas City passed away peacefully at his home under the loving care of his son and daughter on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, age 92 years. Al was born on April 26, 1920 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada to Owen Keith and Mary Elizabeth (Allen) Lutes. He proudly served our country during World War II being stationed mostly in the Philippines. Al was the founder of Tawas Parts and Machine Company in 1962. He owned and operated the corporation for many years. He was an automobile enthusiast and loved restoring classic cars and going fishing in Canada. Al is also a past president of Whittemore Speedway. He is survived by his two loving children, Ronnie Lutes of Tawas and Jeanne Lutes (Chet Michalski) of Tawas; three grandchildren, Michelle (Fairfield) and Bill Bublitz of Illinois, Ryan (Angie) Fairfield of Battle Creek and Keith Lutes (Christine Pauley) Tawas City: two great grandchildren, Lauren Bublitz and Allen Bublitz; many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and his four-legged friend, "Boots." Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Lutes, who passed away on July 23, 2009; a son, Gary Lutes, who passed away in 2007; and a brother, Henry, who passed away in 1927.
