Glen William Simons, age 84, of Oscoda and formerly of Flint passed away on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at the Lakeview Manor Healthcare Center in Tawas City.Glen was born on March 21, 1926, in Flint to Harvey and Florence (nee Johns) Simons. During his career, he worked as a glazier for the Ohio Plate Glass Company, both in Flint and Traverse City, and later was employed in the same trade for the Korts Glass Company in Flint, retiring in 1981. Glen proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in the military police division during World War II, earning the World War II Victory Medal. He enlisted on Nov. 15, 1945, and was stationed throughout Germany, France and Italy with the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division in Europe. Glen was a member of the Oscoda American Legion and VFW, as well as the Oscoda Eagles. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Local No. 826 in Freeland. Glen is survived by his four children, Glenda Rau of Louisville, Ky., Julie (Carl) Cole of Oscoda, Pam Otis of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Jim (Linda) Simons of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Mike (Delores) Simons of Flint, Elmer Simons of Oscoda, Dale Simons of Massachusetts, Ray Simons of Lupton and Jerry Simons of Swartz Creek; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Elizabeth Simons, in 2001; a daughter, Judy Solis in 1982; a son, Tim Simons in 2003; and his mother, Florence Simons. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services scheduled at this time. His cremated remains will be buried next to his wife in Traverse City Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
