Grace L. FedewaWestphaliaAge 96, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. Grace was born on February 22, 1921 to Olaf and Elsie (Johnson) Edling in Lund, Texas. In 1943, she met Norman Fedewa who was in the Army and stationed in Texas. They married in June of 1944 and moved to Westphalia and together raised 9 children. Grace was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Westphalia and the Christian Mothers Society. She was a homemaker for much of her married life, often providing daycare for her grandchildren and extended family members. She worked for Westphalia Telephone Co. from 1973 until 1981. Once she and Norm retired, they enjoyed day trips with their friends and playing cards. Family was important to them, every Sunday Grace would prepare a large dinner that their children would come back home to enjoy. Grace continued to enjoy playing cards well into her later years. Grace was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Norman, sons-in-law Ted Bauman and Bill Peake. She also will be reunited with her parents, her sisters Gladys, Bea, Loraine and Marge; her brother, Curtis "Jack"; in-laws Albert and Helen Fedewa, Harold Fedewa, Helen Pung, Laura Hengesbach, Marcella Hengesbach, Marie Thelen and many other family and friends. Grace is survived by her children Monica Bauman, Stan (Linda) Fedewa, Betty (Mark) Tabor, Albert (Charlene) Fedewa, Tom Fedewa (Pam Inman), Sharon Peake, Mary (John) Gross, Mike (Deb) Fedewa, and Norma (Joe) McGarry; 20 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren with one more on the way; in-laws Charles Fedewa and Dora Pung and a host of nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The rosaries will be prayed at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff of Portland Assisted Living and Memory Care and the team from Great Lakes Hospice, who embraced all of us into their family. The care and love you provided to our mom will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ark, Westphalia Fire Dept. and Great Lakes Hospice in memory of Grace.
