Eilene was born on December 10, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Huber) Schertel. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School on June 13, 1940. Eilene married Joseph A. Cooper on November 29, 1941. She enjoyed cooking, baking, doing crafts, sewing, and puzzles. She loved spending time at Coldwater Lake and being surrounded by her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. She always had a little surprise for her grandchildren when they would leave the house... baseball cards, books, candy, or a doll. Her great-grandchildren enjoyed peering through the window to see if grandma were in her chair, to know whether or not she was home. While she is not in her chair anymore, she will always be in our hearts. Eilene is survived by her daughters, Lori Cooper, Sue (John) Bradac, Lynda (Jim) Herrick, and Peggy (Harry) Peden; sons, Richard (Cindy) Cooper, James (Stephanie) Cooper, William (Lori) Cooper, Joseph (Becky) Cooper, and Thomas (Sharlene) Cooper; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Eilene was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cooper on June 14, 1996; son, Robert Harold Cooper; parents; sister, Marie Hart; and brother, Harold Schertel.
