Helen M. Atkinson passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015 at her home in East Tawas, age 94 years. Helen was born on Oct. 6, 1920 in Detroit to Frederick and Stella (Denio) Frantz. She stayed at home during her younger years to raise her three children and take care of household responsibilities. Those who knew Helen will recall how she enjoyed crocheting and doing word search puzzles. Most of all, she will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Helen is survived by her three beloved children, Grace Colburn of East Tawas, Art (Pat) Atkinson of Gilbert, Ariz. and Barbara Atkinson of Sparks, Nev.; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Art Atkinson in 1990; two brothers, Donald Frantz and Bobby Frantz; and one sister, June Laidlaw. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date in the summer to be announced. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in East Tawas.
