Janette Helen Gibbs of Tawas City passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 6, 2012, age 85. Janette was born on Nov. 16, 1926 in Bay City to Clyde W. and Bertha E. (nee Kocher) Montgomery. She graduated from Tawas City High School and later went to work for the State of Michigan Department of Human Services in East Tawas as a bookkeeper for 14 years, retiring in February 1983. Janette was a very active and loving woman who will always be remembered for her countless hours of volunteering for many years at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital. She was also an active member of the Tawas Quota Club, the National Association of Railway Business Women, a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas and a member of the Catholic Council of Women. Most importantly, Janette truly loved spending time with all her family and friends. Janette is survived by her six children, Nancy (Dan) Soults of Mio, Michael Palumbo of Tawas City, Anthony Palumbo of Traverse City, Bridget Palumbo of East Tawas, Nicholas Palumbo of Midland and Christopher Palumbo of East Tawas; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Patsy (Ken) Beitz of Clio, Joyce Klenow of Tawas City and Karen (David) Curtis of Tawas City; one sister-in-law, Thelma Montgomery of East Tawas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Janette was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Bertha Montgomery; two husbands, Joseph Palumbo and William Gibbs; two brothers, Jake Montgomery and Wade Montgomery; and her daughter-in-law, JoeDee Palumbo. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a family and friends gathering at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City on Friday, May 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a funeral Mass on Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas. Her family will welcome friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass.
