Jay E. Dine, age 77, of Garden City and formerly of East Tawas died on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Garden City Hospital. Jay was born on July 27, 1932, in Detroit, the son of William and Louise (nee Stork) Dine. Jay proudly served our country in the Army during the Korean War for two years. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Tawas City, where he felt everyone at church was family and enjoyed watching the school's basketball games. Jay was a chef at several Detroit area restaurants. He loved to go fishing, woodcarving and took lessons to play the mandolin. Jay married the mother of his children, Patricia Lee (nee Burford) and together they had four children who survive him, Edward and Julie Dine of White Lake, Geri Tatulis of Garden City, Jeffrey and Mona Dine of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Vincent and Amy Dine of Durand; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and Patricia Lee. A memorial service will be held with military honors on Monday, Aug. 31, 2 p.m., at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Funeral arrangements were made by Buresh and Kobs Funeral Home in Tawas City.
