Jeanette Mary Geer of East Tawas passed away peacefully at Rolling Acres Adult Foster Home on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, age 88 years. Jeanette was born on July 17, 1925 in Celina, Ohio to George and Clara (Metzner) Schmitz. She was employed as a registered nurse for Bay City Mercy Hospital and later at Saginaw Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring after many years. Jeanette and her husband, Wilbert, were boat enthusiasts and for many years they would cruise the Great Lakes during the summer months visiting different harbors and enjoying the beauty and peacefulness of the water and small coastal towns. She also enjoyed fishing and will be fondly remembered as a community oriented person. She volunteered many countless hours for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, VFW and other community projects. Most of all, Jeanette adored and cherished her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and keeping abreast of all their activities. Jeanette is survived by her three loving sons, Wilbert W. "Bill" (Mary) Geer Jr. of Gurnee, Ill., Rick (MaryAnn) Geer of Bay City and Gary (Suzanne) Geer of Tawas City; eight grandchildren, Erin (Rodger), Ryan (Tara), Jillian, Susan (David), Patti (Mike), Stephanie, Brad (Tonya) and Matthew (Lindsey); 15 great grandchildren, Riley, Lily, Ethan, Gennifer, Kaitlin, Mia, Shelby, Emily, Alexis, Lauren Clare, Preston, Madelyn, Evelyn, Hailey and Everett; one brother, Bert Schmitz of Dayton, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert W. Geer Sr. on Nov. 22, 1989; a son, James Edward Geer in 1959; and her parents, George and Clara Schmitz. A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas with Father Charles Donajkowski officiating. Her family will welcome friends for visitation at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and also at the church Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass.
