Joyce Eldora (Winer) (Clayton) Hetherington, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Tawas City. She was born on Nov. 9, 1927 to Hiram and Lenora (Morris) Winer in Romulus. She married Willard Clayton in 1946, from this union, two daughters were born, Marsha (Doug) Bessey and Sandra (Bill) Whitford. She remarried in 1970 to Robert Hetherington and helped raise his four sons. They shared 26 years of marriage. Joyce worked in the Tawas area for many years as a bar maid and worked at Starboard Industries. She was a longtime member of the Tawas Moose Lodge. She enjoyed golfing, knitting, tatting, crocheting, going to the hunting cabin and an occasional trip to the casino. Joyce leaves her two daughters and their husbands, Doug and Bill of Tawas City; and her beloved grandchildren, Tim (Karen) Bessey of Oscoda, Denise (Bill) Wirley of Tawas City, Mike Bessey of East Tawas, and Brian (Cheryl) Whitford and Bob (Laura) Perry/Whitford, both of Tawas City; great grandchildren, Andrea (Tyler) Whitford, Bradley Whitford, Brittney Bessey, William and Miranda Wirley, and Brandan and Spencer Perry; also stepsons, Robert (Betty) Hetherington of Bay City and Greg Hetherington; many nieces and nephews; and a very special cousin, Harry Lester of Alger. Joyce was preceded in death by all her siblings; her husband, Bob; stepsons, Steve and Leslie Hetherington; and a grandson, Billy Joe Whitford. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City with Pastor Rob Nordin officiating. Her family will welcome friends for visitation on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Per her wishes, cremation will take place after the funeral service and a burial of her cremated remains will take place in Pioneer Cemetery in Sand Lake.
