Kathleen A. BlakelyMasonKathleen A. Blakely, of Mason, went to be with her heavenly Father on April 11, 2017 after a hard-fought battle with ovarian cancer. Kathy was born on November 21, 1957 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Herbert and Madonna Blakely who preceded her in death.Kathy graduated from Eastern High School in 1975. She earned a Bachelor's of Religious Education with a Major in Music from Great Lakes Bible College in 1980. She was a 28-year employee of St Joseph Mercy's billing department in Ann Arbor.Her true joy came from serving God in various churches in Lansing, Williamston and Detroit. She served in a variety of roles in these churches utilizing her musical talents by playing the organ, piano and directing choirs. She also used her creative energy to run children's educational programs.Kathy loved cooking and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was happiest when she planned a special meal and fun activity with them as they grew up. Kathy also loved to travel.Kathy is survived by 4 siblings: Michael (Shirley) Blakely of Mason, Michigan; David (Deborah) Blakely of Ionia, Michigan; Jan (Al) Baszler of Erie, Colorado and Gordon Blakely of Mason, Michigan. She is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews: Carol Burghdoff of Lansing, Michigan; David (Jessie) Blakely of Sterling, Colorado; Jennifer (Benjamin) Bartlett of Whitewater, Wisconsin; Crystal (Tim) Walcutt of Remus, Michigan; Nicole (Luis) Emerson of Verona, Pennsylvania; Candace (Brian) Cadena of Boulder, Colorado; Curtis (Andrea) Baszler of Englewood, Colorado; Andrew (Kate) Blakely of Durham, North Carolina and Mark (Emily) Blakely of Mason, Michigan. She is also survived by 14 great nieces and nephews: Randy (Melissa), Natasha, Naomi, Benjamin, Marilyn, Hazel, Kristen, Ryan, Katelynne, LJ, Gabriela, Clara, Natalie, Nathanael and one great-great-nephew Ben. Kathy also was very excited about the upcoming arrivals of great-nephews Wesley and Owen.Visitation will occur Monday April 17, 2017 from 6-8 PM at the Koops Funeral Chapel, 935 4th Ave, Lake Odessa, Michigan and 1 hour before the funeral service on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at South Lansing Christian Church.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at South Lansing Christian Church, 6300 N. Aurelius Road, Lansing, Michigan. Kathy's dear cousin, Rev. Pat Weatherwax, will be conducting the services.
