SmithLansingKenneth Lee Smith, age 88, went to his eternal home to be with the Lord on July 20, 2017. Kenneth was born on August 4, 1928 in DeWitt Township, Clinton County, to Stanley Alden Smith and Lucia Ambrosia (DeFeyter) Smith. He graduated from Eastern High School in June, 1945. He proudly served his country in the
U.S. Navy from April 1946 to November 1946 aboard the destroyer Eugene Allen Green. Ken worked for the State of Michigan as an Electronic Specialist, retiring from the Department of Environmental Quality in 1993 after 31 years of service. He enjoyed aviation, was a pilot, and flew model airplanes as a hobby. His faith was an important part of his life and he was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in DeWitt for 39 years. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alden Smith; and sister, Helen Bradley. He is survived by his wife and love of his life for 44 years, Janice Kay (Allwelt) Smith; children, Kenneth (Kristine) Smith of Traverse City and Kathlene (Jim) Powell of Wacousta; step-son, Steve Anderson of Charlotte; sister, Viretta Evans of Marshall; 3 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10:00 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am at Hope Lutheran Church, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Hope Lutheran Church for the Capital Campaign Fund, 1180 W. Herbison Rd., DeWitt, MI 48820. Interment will follow at DeWitt Cemetery.
