Larry L. PayneBattle CreekAge 84, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Glenn Arbor Hospice residence. Larry was born on August 29, 1933, in Battle Creek, the son of Rex and Mildred (Stein) Payne. He had been a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Lakeview High School in 1951 where he ran varsity track. On April 14, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy Jo Emerson who survives. Larry worked at Hamblin Avenue Body Shop in the 1950's and early 60's, and during that time occasionally raced Go-Karts at local tracks. He then was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Clark Equipment and retired after 40 years of service. Larry served in the National Guard, was a HAM Radio Operator, built and flew radio controlled airplanes, enjoyed working in the yard, reading and working around his home. He loved his family. Surviving are his children, Michael (Jodi) Payne and Brenda Payne both of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Jesse (Marissa) Payne, Ryan (Kelsey) Payne and Carly (Jason) Vanderford of Dallas, TX; a great granddaughter, Macy Faith Payne of Dallas; a sister, Lois Brudi of Longview, WA and brothers, Eldon (Ena) McAdams of Battle Creek and Raymond (Greta) McAdams of Cincinnati, OH. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2017, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Jesse Payne officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Humane Society of South Central MI or Willard Library.
