WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP - Lavern C. Hawes, age 91, of Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan. He was born on May 11, 1924, in Vichy, Missouri to Floyd C. and Monia (Evans) Hawes. He married Harriet M. Ruoff on Jan. 13, 1945, in Wauseon, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2012. He lived his early life in Vichy, Missouri, and then he moved to northern Michigan in 1934. He then moved to the Devils Lake and Addison area until 1952. He then built his present home in Wheatland Township where he lived since 1952. LaVern was formerly employed at Addison Products for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a veteran, serving in the United States
Army in the Pacific Theater and Occupational Forces in Japan, in
WWII. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and going to auctions. Surviving are two sons, Calvin L. (Wendy) Hawes of Addison, Gregory A. (Cathy) Hawes of Jackson; two daughters, Barbara Jo (Lambert) Hiram of Jackson, Penny K. Galloup of Bozeman, Montana; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law; Doris Hawes of Manitou Beach, Joyce (Harry) Schilling of Addison, Margaret Ruoff of Kalamazoo, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Harriet; two brothers, Delmar Hawes, Dale Hawes; and one sister, Elsie McFarland. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Rev. Clyde L. Wonders officiating. Burial will take place in Church's Corners Cemetery, Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County. The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 1 p.m. Thursday, until the time of the service.
