Leona P. Paulus, 85, of Oscoda died on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. She was born on December 3, 1924, to the late Isadore and Rose Metevia (nee Cartier). Leona owned and operated a beauty salon at her home in Saginaw for several years. She later moved to Standish and finally to the Oscoda area, where she has lived for the past 30 years. Leona and her late husband, Donald, were very active at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church in Standish prior to moving to Oscoda and joining Sacred Heart Parish. In addition to enjoying her time at church, Leona loved shopping, gardening and tending to her home, garden and yard. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Richard Hoemke) Grenier of Oscoda; grandchildren, Wendy (Steve) Bernard of Lupton, Shelley (Todd) Buresh of Mikado and Mike Grenier of Oscoda; brother, Tom Metevia of Tawas City; sister, Eleanor Glasby of Beaverton; brother, Richard (Patricia) Metevia of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews. Leona was "Grandma Great" to Kassie, Kayla and Katie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on April 13, 1988, and 10 brothers and sisters. A funeral Mass will be held today (Wednesday), Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda with the Rev. Fr. Lawrence Boks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Buresh Chapel in Oscoda.
