Loren P. Ackerman, age 74, of Mikado died on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015 at Alpena Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 24, 1940 in Owosso to the late Loren and Margaret Ackerman (nee Ranowski). Loren served during the Vietnam War in the United States Army and later moved to the Oscoda area in 1970. He worked over the years as a Colorado Mounted Ranger, pulp wood cutter, in construction and most recently as the manager at Main Pier Marina in Oscoda. Loren loved flying, sailing, hunting, fishing and especially spending time outdoors on his property. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1993 in Perry. Loren is also survived by his son, Philip Ackerman of Oscoda; daughter, Bonnie (Chris) Horeski of Clare; daughter, Christine Jones of Lake Odessa; son, Jeffrey Crugher of Fife Lake; two grandchildren, Eric Ackerman and Jennifer Carr; two great grandchildren, Rayn Carr and Thea Carr; and many friends at the Main Pier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael; and two sisters, Christine and Nancy. A memorial service will be planned for the late spring season.
