Marion Victoria Haglund Hopcroft, 84, died on July 26, 2009, in East Tawas. She was born on July 30, 1924, in Oscoda to Otto Alexander and Alice (Wargstrom) Haglund. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edwin, and sisters, Joyce Stewart and Ann Gembarski. She graduated from Oscoda High School in 1942 and married Robert John Hopcroft of Bay City in 1948. They resided in Oscoda for their child-rearing days, then spent another decade living in Mikado. Her working career included Michigan Bell and civil service. Upon retirement from civil service, they moved to Colorado and returned to Oscoda five years ago. She was lovingly devoted to her four siblings after the death of their mother. Over the years, Mrs. Hopcroft enjoyed devoting time to Rebekah Lodge, Hope Lutheran Church and Hope/St. John's Church. She is survived and will be sadly missed by husband, Robert of Oscoda; dear sister, Natalie Haglund, also of Oscoda; and four children, Ann Victoria Hopcroft of California, Ellen Marie Merriken of Denver, Colorado, Jane Elizabeth (Terry) Whitford of Oscoda and Mary Kathryn (Lee) Mertz of Oscoda. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Natalie Jordan Hopcroft from California, Devon Merriken and Eric Merriken from Colorado, Jerry (Jennifer) Lee of Oscoda, Willie Lee of Aurora, Colorado, Dana (Zachery) Mertz Hatfield of Weidman, Ryan Mertz, Jeffrey Mertz and Michael Mertz, all of Oscoda. Surviving great-grandchildren are Austin, Patrick and Connor Lee, Justus and Davian Merriken, and Quinn and Lexi Hatfield. Five nieces and four nephews also survive. A memorial service has not yet been arranged but will be a private family celebration of her life. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Joseph Hospice or Oscoda Education Opportunity Foundation.
