Monica Rose Bryant died on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 3:30 A.M. She was born on August 29, 1922 in Venice, IL. She attended St. Mark's Catholic School graduating in 1935 at the head of her class and also receiving the American Legion award. She graduated from Venice High School as valedictorian in 1939. In her teen years she was a member of St. Agnes Sodality and the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization). On December 27, 1945 she was married to Glenn D. Bryant by Rev. F.W. Klasnerak at St. Mark's in Venice, IL. Her husband's job (Field Service Representative on the F-4 aircraft for McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis, Missouri) took them to PAX River, MD; Miramar, CA; Shahroki Air Base, Iran; San Antonio, TX; and the Yuma MCAS (Marine Corp. Air Station). The family moved to Yuma 1967. Since then she has been a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a faithful volunteer at the church and school. She was a member of the Urbanaires Extension Homemakers Club and served as both president and treasurer. She also served as president and treasurer of the Yuma County Extension Homemakers Council (now known as FCE-Family and Community Education) and then was elected treasurer of the Arizona Extension Homemakers Council. Monica is survived by her daughters, Joan Slecka of Granite City , IL, Rita Curry of Yuma, Angela Ekdahl of Temecula, CA, and Elaine Martinez of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Rosanne Slecka, David Curry, and Christine Curry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; daughter, Marie Hardy; father, John L. Fechte; mother, Mary A. "Zoe" Fechte; brothers, Perry, Lambert, Alvin, and Harry; sisters, Marguerite and Mary Aurelia Fechte and Magdalen Havranek. A Visitation and Rosary will be held at Johnson Mortuary on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 1:00 P.M. A private burial will take place at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Don Curry, and Dean Ekdahl and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Francis Church and School.
