Nancy Pauline Berthiaume of Tawas City, formerly of Bay City and Rochester Hills, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, age 74 years. Nancy was born on Jan. 11, 1941 in Bay City to Ernest and Clara (Williams) Mehnert. She graduated from T.L. Handy High School in Bay City. She was employed with Dow Chemical for many years. Nancy later went to work for Salvation Army, and moved to Rochester Hills where she began employment with Parkedale Pharmaceuticals. After her working career, she stepped away to enjoy retirement and she found so much happiness in gardening, planting flowers within her yard and cooking for her friends and family. She loved living on Lake Huron and participating with the Heritage Coast Sailing and Rowing Club, where she was able to volunteer many hours working on watercraft vessels. Nancy was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bay City, and most recently an active member of the Tawas Area Presbyterian Church. She also worked part time during the voting elections for Alabaster Township. Above all, Nancy truly adored her two grandchildren and spending as much time as she could with them. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Kristin (Dwight) Betz of Richlands, N.C. and Paula Straus of Tawas City; two grandchildren, Rachel and Charlie Stender; one brother, Lyle Mehnert of Bay City and his two children, Stephen and Stephanie; one brother-in-law, Robert Leser of Bay City and his three children, Scott, Kevin and Terry; and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherry and David Wolfe and their three children Nick, Kerry and Tim; nine granddogs; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Gary Berthiaume on June 26, 1999; her parents, Ernest and Clara Mehnert; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Leser. Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of her life at the family home on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. She will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery in East Tawas.
