Nell Vance, at age 88, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011 in Yuma, Arizona. She was born on September 6, 1922 in Nashoba, Oklahoma.Nell had worked for the Heinz Ketchup Factory in Tracy, California and at Gates Rubber Company in Denver, Colorado. She later became a welder in Tracy, California for Tracy Ship Yard during WWII. She married and became a housewife, mother and a dairy farmer in the Yuma Valley of Arizona. She was a 1940 high school graduate, of Clayton High School in Clayton, Oklahoma lettering in basketball. Nell enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, crosswords and playing cards with her granddaughters. She was involved in her children's 4H club, Girl Scouts, and PTA; taking all the neighborhood kids to Marcus Pool, teaching her younger daughter softball and attending every game. Attending all of her oldest daughter's choir performances. She was instrumental in her grandson's physical therapy and learning to walk. She supported her husband's love of horses. In their retirement they enjoyed racing horses in Arizona and New Mexico. When her husband developed Alzheimer's disease, she visited him at the care facility, every day without fail.Nell is survived by her daughters, Linda Roberts of Tucson, Az. and Della Greenawalt of Yuma, Az; grandson, Andre De Cuir of Tucson, Az; granddaughter, Elizabeth Thompson of Yuma, Az. and 3 great-grandchildren.Nell is preceded in death by her husband, John L. Vance.Services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 9:00a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating.
