Norman J. MarquartPortlandNorman J. Marquart, age 85, passed away on January 9, 2017. He was born on March 25, 1931 in Hancock County, Ohio to John and Cora (Balmer) Marquart. Norm was a proud veteran, having served from 1951-1953 in the U.S.
Army, Tank Division of the 89th Battalion during the
Korean Conflict. He attended
Michigan State University to prepare for his lifelong career in agriculture. Norman married Linda Waggoner on February 6, 1954 and they enjoyed raising their children in the Portland community, while making many generous and supportive friends along the way. The First Congregational Church community has consistently demonstrated its living faith and love on Norm and Linda's behalf. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Linda Marquart; daughters, LeAnn (Gary) Krokker; Carol (Art) Alexander; grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Shelton, Kelly Krokker, Daniel Krokker, and Paige Alexander; and great-granddaughter, Kallie. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Marilyn V. Danielson at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the First Congregational Church, Portland. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Memorial Service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church in memory of Norman.
