Robert Carl Miller of East Tawas passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at his daughter's home under the loving care of his family and hospice, age 85. Robert was born on Sept. 30, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Harry L. and Hilda Mae (Davis) Miller. After high school graduation, Robert proudly went to serve our country in the United States Army from Nov. 2, 1945 until his honorable discharge on April 28, 1947. During his service to our country, he was stationed for one year in Tokyo, Japan living two blocks from General MacArthur. He later went to college to earn his insurance and real estate licenses. Robert worked in the real estate business for many years with Weldon Realty and he was also employed by Seymour Carpet and Furniture in East Tawas for 17 years as a salesman. He was very active in the local communities of Tawas and Oscoda and truly loved people. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and was even a state charter boat captain. Robert was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge and the Oscoda Lions Club, having served as past president. Robert will be truly missed by all who had the honor of knowing and loving him. He is survived by his five loving daughters, Pamela Joy (Alan) Ronn of Colorado Springs, Colo., Diane (Tom) King of East Tawas, Robbie (William) Engle of St. Louis, Mo., Delores (Merritt) Finnell of East Tawas and Connie (Mark) Astrom of Oscoda; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service with military honors will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Tawas First Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Nordin officiating.
