Tibshraeny, Sid 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Chandler on October 11, 2016, a month after his 90th birthday. He was born on September 12, 1926 in Biskinta, Lebanon. He was the youngest brother of five born to Elizabeth and Mike Tibshraeny. In 1928, the family immigrated to the United States and traveled west to settle in Mesa, Arizona. Sid graduated from Mesa High School in 1945 where he lettered in football and track. He received a football scholarship at the University of Southern California and played there for one year before returning to Mesa. He continued his education at
Arizona State College where he graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. Shortly after he graduated, he joined the Merchant Marines. He was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital, Germany then back to Walter Reed. In 1956, he met Jan Zachary on a blind date in Hollywood, California. They later married in June 1957 and made their home in Chandler. In 1961 their only child, Lori, was born. Sid was an avid hunter and received the Arizona Big 10 award in 1968. He also loved the yearly dove hunt and fishing all over the state as well as Mexico and Alaska. He and his brother Albert started a general contracting business, Tibshraeny Brothers Construction, that was active in commercial construction for many years. Sid is survived by his daughter Lori and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 18 at 12:00 noon at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 North Macdonald in Mesa. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that donations be made in his honor to Saint Mary's Food Bank or The Arizona Humane Society.
