Sidney P. Young, age 80, of Oscoda and St. Petersburg, Fla., died on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1931, in Hazel Park to the late Philip and Minnie Young (nee Roberts). Sidney was a member of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant after serving from 1948 to 1952. Sidney was an avid reader, genealogist and quite knowledgeable with computers, even enjoying his own Facebook account. He was proud of his Newfoundland heritage. Sidney is survived by his wife, Lillie; three children, Karen (Tom) Ruedisueli of Oscoda, Linda (David) Whitehead of Rochester Hills and Rodger Young of Howell; and four grandchildren, Brian Knisely, Cory Whitehead, Robert Ruedisueli and Christina Ruedisueli. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 3, at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda with Pastor David Dudenhofer officiating. His cremated remains will be placed in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
