Silas Earl Davis, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home with family and friends by his side on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014. Sy was born on Dec. 1, 1927 in Bloomington, Ind. to the late J. Frank and Clara Davis. He married Janice Dillon on March 5, 1950. They moved to Ann Arbor where he worked as a brick mason. When they retired, they moved to Oscoda and loved it there. They were surrounded by great friends and neighbors. Sy was a lifetime member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. He was also a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and past governor of the Moose Lodge 53 in Ann Arbor. Sy was a true outdoorsman; enjoying fishing, hunting and golf. However, golf was his major love. He also loved his keyboard and making music. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Duncan; and daughters, Linda M. (David) Folk and Susan D. (Scott) Guthrie. He is also survived by three grandchildren, William Guthrie, Sara Folk and Jessica Folk, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Sy was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Davis; and many siblings. Sy requested a private graveside family service to be held at a future date in Ann Arbor. However, there will be a golfing memorial for all friends in Oscoda at a date yet to be determined, but will be scheduled in the early- to mid- summer of 2015. Memorials can be made to Reverence Hospice of Tawas: 716 German St. P.O. Box 239, Tawas City, MI 48763 and condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
