Silas Ellsworth Bennett Jr., age 80, of Oscoda, formerly of Chicago, Ill., passed away on Friday, May 26, 2015 at Tawas St. Joseph Hospital in Tawas City. He was born on March 15, 1935 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Silas and Endora Bennett Sr. (nee Gail). Silas joined the Navy in 1953 and went on to work and retire as an assistant conductor for the railroad system. He married the love of his life, Phyllis J. Barnes, on Aug. 13, 1988. Silas enjoyed painting and most importantly, spending time with his family and friends. He was also a member of Grace Community Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Oscoda. Silas is survived by his wife, Phyllis J. Bennett; step-son, Jeffrey (Val) Pomeroy; brother, Richie (Nan) Bennett; sister, Pat Adler; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Bennett. A memorial service will be held at a later date and condolences may be offered at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
