Longtime resident of Yuma, Susanna K. MacAskill, 95, passed away at her home on September 13, 2009. She was born on January 19, 1914 in Mansfield, Ohio. Susanna and her husband, Walter, moved to Yuma in 1952. She worked as a waitress at local restaurants which included, Sambo's, Denny's, Bobby's and Chester's. Upon retiring at age 75, she took in ironing to supplement her income. She loved to play Bingo, crochet, knit and baked cookies for everyone. She was fondly called the "Cookie Lady". Susanna is survived by her son, Walter John MacAskill of Yuma; daughter, Elizabeth Melanie (Nick Jeffrey) Shepherd of Yuma; granddaughters, Tiffany MacAskill of Orlando, Florida, Kathy (Scott) Shearer of Ogden, Kansas, Sarah (Joseph) Cude of San Diego, California, Nickie Shepherd (Steve) of Streetsboro, Ohio; step-grand daughter, Ashleigh Lopez (Chad) of Surprise, Arizona; ten great-grandchildren. Susanna was preceded in death by her husband, Walter (Mac) Francis MacAskill; and grandson, William Douglass Gillespie. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 6:30 p.m. at Victory Community Church, S. Avenue 9E and Desert Springs Drive in the Foothills.
