William MacLean Miller II of Tawas City, formerly of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Tawas City, age 84 years. William was born on Oct. 8, 1927 in Detroit to William MacLean and Beatrice (nee Wheeler) Miller. He graduated from Central High School in Detroit in June of 1945 and he was then drafted in the United States Army where he proudly served our country as an Army technician from March 13, 1946 to April 30, 1947. After his military service, William attended Michigan Tech College in Houghton where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1950. William then attended the Chrysler Institute where he graduated with a Master's degree in automotive engineering. He will always be remembered as a proud family man and a devoted husband and father. William was a very avid gardener and sports fan. His family recalls fond memories of the parties and family celebrations they would host on the Fourth of July. William married his wife, Virginia (nee Sheeks), on July 23, 1955 in Detroit, and she has preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Ann (Tim) Jay of Pinconning; a son, Bill (Virginia) Miller of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren, Laura Jay of Milwaukee, Wis., Jayne Jay of Pinconning, Chris Hall of New York City, N.Y., Ellen Miller of Pendleton, Ind., Claire Miller of Pendleton, Ind. and Mac Miller of Pendleton, Ind.; and many dear friends. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at Tawas Area Presbyterian Church in East Tawas with Pastor Rick Vogeley officiating.
