William R. StewardPort HuronWilliam R. Steward, 85 of Port Huron, passed away on December 29, 2016 in his home with his family by his side. He was born on February 3, 1931 to Walter and Edna Steward. He married Irene Sikentanz on August 23, 1953 and they shared 63 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2015.Bill graduated from Yale High School and, after graduation, he served with the U.S. Army 7th Signal Company 7th Infantry Division. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He then graduated from Eastern Michigan University.Bill taught school for many years in the Port Huron area. He was well respected for his coaching abilities and enjoyed many successful years of baseball and basketball. Bill was an avid golfer. Most days he could be seen at the Elks where he was an active member, playing a round of golf with his close friends and family. He was also a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.Bill is survived by his three children, Mark (Sally) Steward, Patty (Jeff) Richert, and Teri Lamb; seven grandchildren, Kyle Steward, Blake Steward, Megan Lardner, Katie Lardner, Eric Bradbury, Laura Richert, and Jaclyn Richert; and three great grandchildren, Ayden Cross, Lillian Nguyen, and Vanessa Nguyen. He is also survived by his sister, Janet Andrews Williams, sister-in-law, Karen Steward, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Robert and Grant Steward.Visitation will be on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. with the Knights of Columbus leading the Rosary Monday evening. The funeral mass take place at 11 AM Tuesday at Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph worship site with The Rev. Fr. Joseph Gagnon officiating. Inurnment will follow at Mt.
